Terms & Conditions

These terms cover using The Good Teachers and, more importantly, what happens to a story once you send it to us. They are written to be read, not to be survived.

The short version

• Your story stays yours. You are not signing it over to us.
• You give us permission to publish it here, and that permission is non-exclusive — you may publish the same story anywhere else, any time, including in a book of your own.
• You can ask us to take it down, and we will, without asking why.
• We may edit for clarity and length, and we may decline to publish.

Who owns a published story

You do. Copyright in your words remains yours. By submitting, you grant The Good Teachers a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to publish, display, and share your story on this site and in our own promotion of it — for example, quoting a line on social media with your name and a link back.

Non-exclusive matters: it means we are not the only ones allowed to publish it. Your story is still yours to reuse, sell, adapt, or enter anywhere you like.

We will not license your story to a third party, sell it, or place it behind a paywall.

What you are confirming when you submit

• The story is your own work, or you have permission to share it.
• It is true as far as you know. This is an archive of real classrooms, not fiction.
• You have taken care not to identify students — changed names, no details that would let a reader work out who a child is.
• You are not writing something that would defame a named colleague, student, parent or school.

What our editors may do

Every submission is reviewed by a person before it appears. We may:

• Correct spelling, grammar and structure.
• Shorten for length, or suggest a clearer title.
• Ask you to change anything that could identify a student or a third party.
• Decline to publish, and we do not have to explain at length why.

What we will not do is change what your story means. If an edit would alter the substance, we come back to you first.

Publication is never guaranteed

Submitting a story does not mean it will be published, and nothing here promises a timeline. We are a small editorial team and we read oldest first.

Taking your story down

Write to hello@thegoodteachers.inand ask. You do not owe us a reason. We will unpublish it. Copies that already exist elsewhere — search engine caches, someone's screenshot — are outside our control, and we will tell you honestly rather than pretend otherwise.

What may not be submitted

• Someone else's writing passed off as your own.
• Anything identifying a child without the consent of their parent or guardian.
• Abuse, harassment, or content targeting a person or community.
• Anything unlawful under Indian law.
• Advertising, spam, or content written to promote a business.

We may remove anything that breaks these terms, and stop accepting submissions from an address that repeatedly does.

Using the site

Reading is free and needs no account. Stories published here are protected by their authors' copyright — you may link to them and quote briefly with attribution, but not republish them in full without the author's permission.

The TGT name, logo, design and code are ours. Please do not pass off another site as this one.

What we can and cannot promise

The site is provided as it is. We work to keep it available and accurate, but we cannot promise it will never be down, and we are not liable for indirect losses arising from using it.

Stories are the personal accounts of the teachers who wrote them. They are not advice, and they are not statements of fact by us about any school, person, or institution.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. Material changes will not be applied retroactively to a story you have already submitted.
